Dr. Christian J. Meyer

Education

Dr. Christian Meyer is an 1990 cum laude graduate of the University of California Santa Barbara where he received a Bachelor of Science in Biopsychology. In 1990, he attended the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and graduated magna cum laude. He was ranked #2 out of 18 graduates and received numerous awards and admission into several dental societies. For his orthodontic residency at Harvard, Dr. Meyer was 1 of 12 individuals in the country who was awarded the National Institute of Health Dentist Scientist Award, one of the most prestigious grants for dentists in the United States. This grant also funded his orthodontic residency and his second doctoral degree in cell biology at Children’s hospital in Boston.

Under the direction of Donald Ingber MD, Ph.D, Dr. Meyer discovered how mechanical forces were detected by individual cells and translated step-by-step into gene expression. His findings have been published in the highest level scientific journals such as Nature, and his body of work advanced scientific views on the effect of mechanical forces on cells and tissues, an area directly related to clinical orthodontics.

Private Practice

In 1999, Dr. Meyer completed his orthodontic residency training at Harvard, where he graduated #1 in his class and received the two most prestigious awards that the Harvard department of orthodontics could bestow: The George Cadman award for clinical proficiency and the Coenraad Moorrees award for outstanding research. To this day, Dr. Meyer is only one of two individuals to receive both awards in Harvard University’s long and proud orthodontic history!

In 1998, Dr. Meyer presented his research findings at several scientific conferences. He was offered tenure-track positions at two dental schools on the spot and a third position that came later. Despite these offers, Dr. Meyer ultimately chose private practice over an academic career of teaching, research and clinical practice, because he didn’t think it was possible to achieve the highest level of excellence in all three areas in the changing environment of academics.

Since October 1999, Dr. Meyer has been practicing orthodontics in a large multidisciplinary dental group in Winchester, MA. For nearly 15 years, he has had the honor and privilege of serving thousands of families in Winchester, Woburn, Burlington, Lexington, Arlington, and other towns throughout Middlesex county.

Although it may have been great to be a chairman of an orthodontic department, Dr. Meyer cannot imagine life without the relationships that have developed with his patients, their families, and most of all, the the thousands of smiles his practice has created!

Outside the Office

Dr. Meyer’s number one activity is spending time with his wife and two daughters outdoors. As his girls grow, he and his family spend increasingly more time enjoying their activities.

Dr. Meyer’s other hobbies includes woodworking in the winter (recently completing the construction of his home’s cabinets), saltwater fishing, and grilling outdoors all-year-round. He is also big fan of the Patriots, RedSox, and Bruins, too!

While it was a great 15 years in the group setting, my new solo orthodontic office in Woburn gives me a better opportunity to serve patients and their families in an individualized and customized way.
